– Base on my visual orientation above, the designer reported that people expressed concern showing bodies and rather like a symbol, more so because it was related to a school project .
– my plead:
It is a ‘classic’, people first response would be always to conceptualized ‘any subject’, it is part of the ‘general ‘ orientation of how we are use to have images presented to us. [ how graphically published images come to us – screened/censured and in some way desensitize for us ] – the general public does not have its saying on this decisions making, only the publishing world does it – Hollywood ‘like’ and advertising have largely contributed to this phenomena.
That is to say that graphically speaking some ‘images’ have already made into peoples minds as the only ‘answer/vocabulary’ to express certain subject matter – the ‘ dove ‘[ invented by very contravercial Picasso] as a peace symbol is on the same register than for example the shape of a heart painted red as ‘love’ symbol substitute [ re-invented by a 212 designer to express passion for NYC] … Less face it, boxes made in this similar shape are mass produced to stuff chocolate boxes to be sold for Valentines days!
To be effective rather that decorative: an hightly crutial issue does require an image closer to higher caliber in order to support it – rather than weaken the ‘idea’. In this present case it is not even ‘ an idea’, it is about horrible and indescribable historical facts.
Lets describe 2 examples I experience yesterday on the street and on the news:
1-/ an advertising banner on an NYC bus: a dying woman wearing respiratory device as a result of tobacco smoking – text only in Spanish is striking ‘ to die from smoking… is rarely quick and never without pain.‘ :

Why showing graphicaly in such a way? Exactly like when one questioned ” Why Will I Remember? “. Because we do not want one more single woman dying from the profit of the tobacco industry nor we want today or tomorrow any live be the victim [ like it happen] of a ‘Nazi’ like organization.
How do you want to express this, depend of how much one wants to remenber. A sure way to increase sexual child abuse for example is for the victims not to report it, and the rest of the population to ignore it.
Only adults tend to worry about children being able to relate to facts, but the reality is that in this day and age, children/young adluts are far more sophisticated and eager to know the truth than adults wish to believe. As a child, one of the bigger disappointment of my life was the day my mother inform me that Santa did not exist, and also my shame for finding that my parents were paying for my ‘gifts’.

It would be unfair to pretend to address the historical WWII Holocaust issue without reviewing real documentations. For the very few I looked at it made me literally sick to my stomach! So I decide to at least try to express this – my proposal did not get accepted .

ps : it has been reported that Picasso [the ‘dove’ man] was asked by a German person, who refer to his Guernica painting, ” did you do that Mr. Picasso ” – ” no, you did it!” was his reply – If the artist does not generate a graphic loud response, and as a result no one will bother asking questions and even less if there is any need to ‘remenber’.
