Now The Long New York’s Winter Ends Leaving Room for Spring and Its Nature’s Teachings – recalling my series of linoleum cuts illustrations commissioned and published July 2004, [ just about ] 14 years ago by Harper’s Magazine, New York : ” Small Silences – Listening for the Lessons of Nature “, an essay by Edward Hoagland.

Excerpt in Harper’s Magazine :

” My parents thought that nature and writing were dodges that derail a more respectable career in law or medicine.

I was more frightening to be alone upstairs in my own house at night than tiptoe about the woods.

Finding a sight line outdoors without buildings, pavement, people, is a task, and we’re not awed by other people anymore

Pets in containers can hardly fill in for the galaxy of scents and shapes in natural creation that we are losing or no longer sense or see.

I’ve never thought of nature as a polychromatic thrum you sway and bum along with.”
