Feb12, 2018: linoleum cut illustration book cover, commissioned and published by Editions de la Maison des Sciences de l’homme , Paris, for“ Partenaires inégaux “ by Fabrice Jaumont. The author with his book, shows the 3 stages of the process to produce the book cover : original linoleum cut block, original colored print, final book jacket.
I thank Fabrice for supporting the concept that not only the “design” but the “process ” leading to a creation of a book cover as well is part of the aesthetic and it matters. Block or plate engraving and its printing process are at the historical core of book “invention”, there is no replacement in terms of quality image definition = best possible image readability. Like in the case of the invention of the bicycle, for example, there have been only upgrades but not revolutionary replacement from it’s mechanical principle.
